Description: this paper we have investigated the effects of various complexity options on the rate/distortion performance of the BFT. Our results show that considering reflections and rotations produces no real advantages in terms of fidelity at a particular compression ratio. It also appears that searching of the image, even if restricted to coding tiles of high edge value, degrades the rate/distortion performance to an even greater degree. However, our comparisons are based on the objective measurement of rms error. It is possible that psycho-visual assessment might produce a different result. Monro
